Publication news

I am really excited to share that I am currently writing my next book, provisionally titled The Attention Blueprint with Sage Publishing.

Having taught for over a decade, I have been forming this book in my mind and my classroom for a long time. Without attention, learning cannot happen, and yet sustaining it in today’s classrooms feels increasingly complex. How can we keep our students’ attention in our classrooms?

The Attention Blueprint is rooted in the belief that attention is the currency of learning. I hope that this will bring together cognitive science and real classroom practice to explore how attention works and how it connects to key processes such as working memory, cognitive load, retrieval, and motivation. It aims to offer teachers a clear, practical framework for designing learning that genuinely sticks.

This is a book written by a teacher, for teachers. It draws on tried-and-tested classroom approaches, is supported by research, and is shaped by my own experience as both an English teacher and a senior leader. I feel incredibly privileged to be in a position to champion the profession in this way and contribute something I hope will be genuinely useful for colleagues.

Inviting Colleagues to Contribute

I am keen to include the voices of teachers from across the sector, particularly colleagues working in primary and secondary schools. I would love to feature interviews and case studies that capture what effective teaching and learning look like in classrooms and how teachers harness and sustain attention every day.

The book is provisionally due for release in early 2027.
